We don’t expect Apple will read this article and it may be too late because the iPhone is reportedly coming this September. But in case they get a chance to read this and they want to know how they’re going to win our hearts again, we may have a couple things that needs to be addressed.
It’s given that by simply existing, Apple’s iPhone will still win the hearts of many Apple fanboys (and girls) – we’re just giving away some (and really obvious) tips for them to be on top of the market again. Apple may just add an “s” on their iPhone 6 box and I bet people will still buy that phone.
So here’s our list on things that Apple needs to do with their upcoming iPhone for them to be on top again.
Better Display
A couple of years ago, the word “Retina” meant a brand new innovation and a breakthrough. If some random guy will tell you that the phone has a retina display, you’ll surely be astonished and will buy it even though you don’t know the meaning of the word. But that was years ago. The current iPhone 6 only has a 1334×750 at 326ppi and it’s bigger brother has 1920×1080 at 401ppi – which is the standard resolution of an Android phone two years ago.
In comparison with Apple’s competitors, a large number of Android phones are now at 500ppi, leaving the current iPhone in the dust. It’s so sharp you can’t even see the pixels in a microscope. We’re not saying that the display of the iPhone is crappy, it’s just not the best available.
Design Changes
In my honest opinion, I still prefer the design of the iPhone 5s rather than the new iPhone 6. It’s much more sleek and good looking. But as you know, when Apple is on their “s” stage, they’ll pretty much avoid a major redesign and stick to the look and feel of the iPhone 6.
On the current iPhone, there’s so much room for improvement if you’re going to stick with it. They may want to get shot of the plastic strips, find a way to make the device less slippery. Tweak some things to make it more durable and avoid the cursed #BendGate.
More Storage
One thing that Android has obviously copied from the iPhone franchise is the storage. Numerous phones are ditching the expandable storage and sticking to the max storage that is capable on a smartphone. Last time, Apple introduced the innovative iCloud so you won’t rely too much on your local storage.
We’re not saying that this it isn’t enough, but what if the next iPhone can seal the deal with a 256GB variant? That would be groundbreaking.
Enhanced Camera
In terms of smartphone camera, the iPhone is very popular and is still on the list of top camera on a phone. That’s a fact. I’m still using the iPhone 5s and I’m quite satisfied on the pictures that I take and post on Instagram. When it comes to color, accuracy and efficiency, I’d still go for this phone.
Apple tends to move away from the Megapixel wars and just put their efforts on it’s focus and processing speed, unlike the LG G4 and Samsung Galaxy S6 that boasts 16MP on their camera.
But if Apple wants to outdo the competition, they better invest on improving these numbers. Maybe add some more features like other smartphones (Manual Mode).
…And damn that protruding camera! Wrong move Apple, wrong move!
More Battery! (Please!)
On the other side of the spectrum, there’s Apple’s poor and crappy battery life. Apple is quite infamous when it comes to batteries. iPhones will only hold off through out a “normal” day without heavy use – but that’s not enough nowadays. Other smartphones can now live for about 2 days and even a whole with heavy gaming and use of power-hungry apps.
They already did an innovation that even though they have a small amount mAH battery, they make use of their operating system to do the power processing and run everything with low power. Imagine if you have a larger battery together with a smart operating system? They’d be unstoppable.
BONUS FEATURE!
The problem with Apple’s “S” series is that you’d only expect improvements on hardware and some tweaks that will entice you – there’s actually nothing amazing and eye-catching feature (except maybe with the Touch ID of the iPhone 5s).
Therefore there’s this bonus feature that Apple might consider. Something that will blow away people’s if ever Apple has managed to apply this on the iPhone – THE FORCE TOUCH SCREEN!
Wouldn’t it be amazing if the next iPhone were to have that feature? A touch screen that morphs beneath your fingers, giving you tactile feedback! This is a feature that was introduced in the Apple Watch and new Macbook and as far as smartphones go, this is still not yet implemented on any.
PS: I know that this is a long shot and far from being possible in the nth years – everyone would appreciate if we were to able to hide those stock apps, Apple.
