Check if your area is fiber ready with this search tool from Globe
More or less you will know if your area is covered by Globe Broadband, especially if you see streamers and flyers being handed out in your neighborhood. But most of the areas until now is utilizing the copper-based DSL system, which isn’t bad considering Globe just upgraded their speeds to 10Mbps for Plan 1299 customers.
Location Availability
But, some of us are already itching for Fiber broadband internet connection (like us!) and it would be great news if we have one without asking or calling an agent. That’s why Globe Broadband is currently in beta testing their Availability Search Tool, to see if your area is eligible for any Globe Broadband service.
Here is our experience
First, we checked out our house in San Roque Marikina which we have a 15Mbps Globe Broadband connection. The Google Maps tracking technology is pretty good in detecting the street, but not too much on the house number.
Karayom Marikina Broadband Availability
Once you placed your pin properly and inserted the right house number, you can click the “Check broadband availability” to see the available plans & speeds in your area. It got pretty accurate to the plans as that I have is indicated and it says that our area also now good for 50Mbps Fiber!
We already called the customer representative and they said that a 3-7 working days will be processed to make sure that the area is serviceable for 50Mbps Fiber line.
Karayom Available
We will try to upgrade our line in Marikina ASAP and let you know the development, as per Globe the availability tracker is pretty accurate with discrepancies in high-rise buildings.
We tried it in our condo unit in Mckinley and the plan availability was not that accurate as we are using a 15Mbps speed but the plans shows only up to 5Mbps.
Morgan
Just in case your area is not serviceable by any Globe wireline service, they will suggest you get the Globe Prepaid Home Wi-Fi which is a portable 4G LTE device with 50% stronger Wi-Fi as compared to pocket Wi-Fi devices for Php1,499.
Not Available
That’s it for now, we will let you know the progress if our area is really eligible for Fiber connection or just simply a glitch in their new availability tracker.
Update (01/30/2017): A Globe customer representative updated us that the specific cabinet in our area is not yet Fiber ready, though she specified that the area can now cater to Fiber speeds it is just that our specific nearby cabinet is not yet upgraded. She also indicated to wait 1-3 months for the progress of our area if we can eventually upgrade, so we won’t be seeing any upgrades until Globe upgrades our cabinet ?
