The OPPO F5 comes in a white box that doesn’t detract away from their usual design philosophy. We won’t focus much on the unboxing since the box contains the usual accessories from the brand: a microUSB cable, charger, earphones, silicone case, and a SIM ejector.
OPPO’s new phone jumps on the 18:9 bandwagon with a 6.0-inch 18:9 display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 for a total of 403ppi. OPPO rates the brightness at 450nits although in our experience the display is a bit dim under sunlight.
The F5 also integrates the navigation buttons on the bottom of the screen instead of having physical, capacitive keys. This saves on space and allows the F5 to be even more beautiful at the front.
At the rear of the phone are the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and its 16MP main camera with LED flash that’s also capable of 1080p, 30fps recording.
As far as connectivity goes, the OPPO F5 comes with a triple SIM slot that can house Dual-Nano SIM cards and a microSD card.
The real star of the show is the 20MP selfie camera with screen flash. What separates the F5’s selfie camera from the rest is its A.I. Beauty Technology.
OPPO has gathered thousands of selfies around the world and have added an algorithm to determine what’s the best beautification setting from 200 facial points without appearing cartoonish or overly smooth. The A.I is also able to determine your age and sex for a more streamlined experience when taking selfies.
As you can see from the photo above, the selfie camera does a good job smoothing out the face without becoming overly aggressive with the beautification. It even has some lovely Bokeh on the background.
The front camera also allows the smartphone to be unlocked using only your face something akin to the Apple iPhone X and the Vivo V7+.
We have only had a short time with the OPPO F5. Thus, we haven’t had the chance to test all of the features of the smartphone. We’ll be posting a full review of the OPPO F5 in the near future. So stay tuned!
