What is this Laser-guided focus thingy?

First, this kind of tech is first introduced by LG G3. Most camera phones today use a technology called “contrast detection” to automatically focus on the subject you choose. To put it simple, the camera determines and focuses on the subject based on the level of darkness and contrast. It’s pretty much trial and error until you get the right subject so its not that accurate, but it works.

On the other hand, the Laser is much more efficient. They emit a tiny laser which bounces off the subject and goes back to the camera, measuring the exact distance so you’ll get the perfect focus. In summary, you’ll get faster and more accurate focus on the subject.

Because of that, will it take better photos?

No. It won’t be a determining factor when it comes to taking high-quality photos. The laser-guided tech is mainly for two things:

When you want to capture quick photos, the ZenFone 2 Laser outshines other phones. Because of it’s laser technology, you’ll get faster focus on the subject so you can snap it quickly. A good scenario is when the subject you’re trying to capture is moving.

Also, with the laser focus, you’ll be the best in dark environments. Notice how other phones are having a hard time taking photos at night time and dark indoor places? You won’t experience that kind of problems. You’ll have the privilege of focusing on the subject without having to shine a flashlight, and you’ll get natural lighting and colors. But keep in mind that even if you can focus well, photos will still appear grainy on dark places.

So, is that it?

Pretty much. Almost every ZenFones are similar in the spec sheet – they just differ in some aspects depending on the model. But don’t take this negatively, it’s still a competitive phone in the current market.

You won’t go wrong with the performance in this phone, you’ll be able to play most games available in the play store and multi-task without lag issues.

The 3000mAh battery can last for a whole day, that’s with heavy usage and LTE turned on. I can even use this for two days and still have some juice left.

Should you buy the ZenFone 2 Laser?
