Indonesia starts to pull phone 16 restrictions, but barriers remain
Indonesia’s state has today granted Apple most of the credentials needed for the phone 16 moratorium to be lifted, but Apple still didn’t resume revenue just yet.

As reported at the end of February 2025, Indonesia has now settled its debate with Apple. The phone 16 does not, however, move up on sale immediately.
According to Reuters, that’s because what has happened is that Apple has been granted the regional information credentials that were Indonesia’s major barrier to selling the phone 16. It’s to do with the local content quota, which requires between 35 % and 40 % of the device’s components to be made in Indonesia.
