Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1 train line, has officially launched the free mobile app ikotMNL. ikotMNL will allow commuters and tourists travelling along LRT-1 to get information and pricing of tickets right in one app.
Available for iOS and Android devices, ikotMNL app will allow those who are planning to ride the LRT-1 line to plan their trips ahead of time. The app comes with helpful features such as real-time train arrivals and departures, fare information, and crowd monitoring in all twenty stations of LRT-1.
Tourists will also find the app helpful. Those who are new in the area can see tourist spots near each stations, safety reminders, passenger advisories, news and announcements, as well as a chat box for customer service assistance.
LRMC President and CEO Juan F. Alfonso said that “This is the first railway and tourism app in the Philippines. We constantly look for modern ways to change the way we move people… ikotMNL app is an innovative tool to delight our passengers with a comfortable, safe, and convenient experience when riding the LRT-1.”
The company has spent a considerable amount of time developing the app. Hopefully, the app will promote local tourism in the nation’s capital. With a unified purpose for both commuter and travelers, ikotMNL is a unified app in a single package.
Although ikotMNL is relatively fresh, LRMC is now thinking a roadmap to improve the app. At this time, future upgrade plans include partnership with beep card and QR codes for fares as well as tie-ups with merchants.
