DJI announces the Mavic Air | Hungry Geeks | Latest news

With an estimated 70% share in the drone market, DJI essentially has a stranglehold in the drone market. DJI also covers the drone market with a couple of SKUs that would cater to the casual to the budding professional. DJI is adding another drone to their repertoire, positioned between the Spark and Mavic Pro, the Mavic Air aims to bring portability and added features into the field.

Like the Spark, the Mavic Air can be folded increase portability. When folded, it’ll only take up space like a smartphone. DJI’s newest drone can shoot 4K videos at 30fps or 1080p at 120fps, and take DNG photos with its 12MP f/2.8 CMOS censor. To store all your videos and photos, there’s 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a microSD slot. A USB Type-C port has been included for faster access to your data.

The Mavic Air can travel up to speeds of 42.5mph (68.4kph) at max speed for as long as 21 minutes of flight time. Inside is a three-axis gimbal as well as an environment sensor to avoid any accidental crashes. Gesture controls has also been carried over to the Mavic Air, which can detect gestures from up to 20 feet.

The DJI Mavic Air will retail for USD 799 (PhP 41,000) for the base set, which includes a dedicated controller. You can also shell out USD 999 (PhP 51,000), which will include extra batteries, a charging hub, and other accessories. The Mavic Air will start shipping on January 28.
