Everything Apple announced at their March 2016 event – Hungry Geeks

The Apple event was somewhat short but a couple of important matters were discussed. But if you missed the hour-long keynote because you were already sleeping then we summarized it for you:

Encryption Issues

The CEO of Apple, Tim Cook started the announcement by discussing its ongoing battle with FBI regarding the San Bernardino iPhone case. He stated:

“We believe strongly that we have a responsibility to help you protect your data and protect your privacy, We will not shrink from that responsibility.”

Going eco-friendly and more on research

Apple’s Vice President of Environment Lisa Jackson announced that 93 percent of their facilities located worldwide run on renewable energy and has reached their goal of 100 percent in 23 countries.

Apple also showed off their new Research and Development project dubbed as Liam — a robot made to deconstruct old iPhones and reuse the old materials.

They also announced a new research tool for people to have better understanding data on health conditions and they called it Carekit. With CareKit, iPhone users can now track vitals like temperature, heart rate or range of motion or determine whether they went on a surgery. The data can be shared with their doctors for research purposes.

Updates on Apple Watch and Apple TV

No, major updates for the Apple Watch except a huge price cut — now down as low as $299. They also released new watch bands like the woven nylon bands with comes along with different colors.

Apple also announced that there now more than 5,000 Apple TV apps available for download. He also hinted us that a few and much-needed updates are coming to the OS like folders and voice dictation, and an integration of the Live Photos.

The iPhone SE!

Well, we were right about the form factor and specs. The iPhone SE is a 4-inch device that comes with the iPhone 6S’ 64-bit A9 chip and M9 motion coprocessor. It also has its 12-megapixel camera and true-tone flash.

Apple said that the iPhone SE offers LTE speeds 50 percent faster than the iPhone 5s and it’s got Touch ID and Apple Pay built into it.

The iPhone SE starts at $399 for the 16GB variant and will be available in all four colors found on the iPhone 6S.

iOS 9.3 Update

With a new iPhone released comes a new update on the iOS. Apple released the iOS 9.3 update with some nifty features and bug fixes such as Night Shift, passcode-protected Notes and a revamped Apple News.

A Smaller iPad Pro

Another device that was heavily rumored and leaked on the internet — a smaller iPad Pro. Apple announced the 9.7-inch Retina display iPad Pro that weighs less than one pound. It has an Oxide TFT display for high contrast ration and actually has the lowest reflectivity found in any other table. The device also has the brightest screen compared to any other tablet with the widest color gamut.

Apple mentioned that the smaller iPad Pro is for those who are always on-the-go but wants to carry a powerful tablet. Apple also fired some shots at Windows user as they dubbed the iPad pro as the “ultimate PC replacement”.

They also released accessories such as they smart keyboard, Lightning SD card reader, USB camera reader. It also comes in four colors, including the new Rose Gold.

The device is priced at $599 for the 32GB variant and goes all the way up to 256GB storage.
