Microsoft clearly made a statement earlier this morning in their annual 2015 press event as they announced a number of stunning hardware. We know that you were too tired to watch the event live so here’s the list of everything Microsoft announced in the said event.
3 New Lumia Smartphones
After obtaining smartphone company Nokia, Microsoft has taken the step in to their own matters to make their own Lumia flagship Windows phones – the Lumia 950 and 950XL. Both are running the latest Windows 10 operating system.
The main difference of the two smartphone is its size much like the iPhone 6S and the 6S Plus – they are rocking 5.2 inches and 5.7 inches, respectively. Both are packing 3GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a USB-C port for charging, wireless charging and a microSD card support for expandable storage. As for the camera, they are both packed with 20MP rear and 5MP front.
There’s also a slight difference in the processors, the smaller one is running on an octa-core processor while the 950XL has a larger hexa-core on it.
They also announced a budget smartphone if are not fancy with those high-end phones. They announced the Lumia 550. It has a 5-inch screen, a 5MP and 2MP front and rear shooters, an 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of ram for only $139.00.
Continuum Support
These newly announced Lumia phones will also be able to upgrade into personal computers as Microsoft announced the Continuum support for Windows 10 mobile.
To put it simply, mobile users will only have to connect their phone’s USB-C port to an HDMI display, plug-in their keyboard and mouse through bluetooth to get it working. They also announced a custom dock to make everything easier.
This, of course create a new layer of apps which Microsoft is opening to everyone.
Microsoft Band 2
Microsoft joined the wearable bandwagon just a year ago and they are already introducing their new and improved Band 2 with a curved OLED touchscreen display.
The new Band 2 includes an optical heart rate sensor, 3-axis accelerometer, gyrometer, GPS, a light sensor, skin temperature sensor, UV sensor, capacitive sensor, a built-in mic, a galvanic skin response sensor and a fancy barometer in case you need to measure how high you are (pun intended).
We know, it has a lot of sensor. But do we actually need these? We already know that Microsoft is competing directly with Apple in terms of health and fitness tracking.
The Band 2 will cost you $249.00 and will ship at the end of the month.
Microsoft Surface Pro 4
After Apple’s release of their Surface-like iPad Pro, everyone is waiting for this moment for Microsoft to announce the Surface Pro 4.
The display has a 12.3″ PixelSense that rocks a 267 PPI. It also has the newest Intel Skylake chipset and the body is slimmer than the previous Pro 3 at 8.4mm thick.
Along with the new tablet is a new dock keyboard with an integrated touch sensor technology. It now has 4 USB 3.0 ports, two 4K display ports and an Ethernet port. Users of the Surface Pro 3 can also use this device as it is compatible with the older model.
The new Surface Pro 4 will be priced starting at $899.00 and is scheduled to ship at the end of October.
BONUS ROUND: Microsoft Surface Book
The device rocks a 13.5″ screen that still supports touch and pen similar to the Surface Pro 4. It is also packing the latest Intel Skylake chipset, and has it’s own dedicated NVIDIA graphics card. Microsoft stated that you’ll get to use 12 hours of battery life in this device. It starts at 8GB of RAM upgradable to 16GB with 128GB of storage that’s also upgradable to your liking.
Surface Book starts at $1499.00, and the pre-order will start on October 7.
Microsoft has proved again that they are now king. How will Apple react to this? We’ll see in the coming months.
