Final Fantasy XV Release Date Moved to November 2016 – Hungry Geeks

While there are some that decry the movement of release dates of highly anticipated games, experience has taught us that it is something necessary. Instead of becoming a nuisance or something that would bemean their efforts, the developers of Final Fantasy XV decided to move the release date from September 2016 to November 29. This is to give room for the day one patch to be shipped with the discs.

Director Hajime Tabata released a statement with regards to the matter. In his Youtube video above (with English subtitles), he lamented about their choice but pushed on due to their commitment to deliver a product that everyone would like. He also commented that the decision was based on the fact that not everyone has an internet connection.

Personally, great move by Square Enix to delay a product that didn’t pass their QA. That past few releases taught us that a rushed product is usually best left inside a garbage bin with piles of refuse on top.

Sony also released a  statement about this. The Press Release below also includes the game’s pricing for the Sony PS4 (or click this one for everything about prices):

Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch (SIES) today announced that to deliver the iconic FINAL FANTASY experience to audiences around the world, SQUARE ENIX®. has decided that the global release date for FINAL FANTASY®XV will be November 29, 2016.

Global release date of FINAL FANTASY XV

Updated Release dateNovember 29,2016Tue

This release date will allow the development teams to have time time to further polish and conduct quality testing so that the reality of the game can match the expectations of both the fans and the creative teams.

We express deep apologies to all the fans and related personnel for the inconveniences caused by the decision.

Comments from Hajime Tabata, director of FINAL FANTASY XV

Our team has been working hard to fulfill the promise we made at the event back in March. Now the master version of the game has already been completed and we think most players will be satisfied with our current progression.

However, from the moment we joined this project, our vision was to create a level of freedom and realism previously unseen in the series. Regrettably, we need a little bit more time to deliver on this vision and are confident that this new release date will help us achieve this,” said Hajime Tabata the game director. “As the director and lead of this project, I wish to personally apologize for the additional wait. As a team, we want FINAL FANTASY XV to achieve a level of perfection that our fans deserve. We kindly ask for your understanding.”

A game play trailer recorded from the latest version of the game will be available from August 16.

Besides, during Gamescom (August 17-21), the latest version will be at the event booth as playable  demo.
