Globe broadband released information that their wireline services have reduced prices up to 88% for the past 4 years. Their latest plan lineup of 10Mbps at 1,299 per month have significantly improved over the past Php3,999 per month package for 10Mbps. Not to mention that globe now offers free content such as six-months free NBA League Pass, Netflix and HOOQ.
Previous Fiber offerings have also declined in prices where 50Mbps is now at Php1,899/month versus Php8,499/month for the same plan. Additionally, 100Mbps is now also offered at a much lower price of Php2,499/month representing an 88% price drop from Php19,999/month.
This is thanks to Globe’s emphasis to provide better wireline services to its customers nationwide, Globe aims to provide 20,000 barangays or 2 Million homes with fast internet service by 2020. This is a great initiative to separate heavy data usage from the wireless network as apps like Netflix and other video streaming services simply needs more data allocation.
In line with its strategy of bringing focus on its broadband services, Globe plans to roll out 400,000 ultra-fast broadband lines within the year, to bring a minimum internet speed of at least 10 Mbps.
Globe Telecom’s focus on its broadband operations has started to bear fruit, as the company’s broadband revenues at the end of third quarter last year reached P10.7 billion, a 38% rise from a year earlier revenue of P7.8 billion, attributed mainly to continued customer base expansion. At the end of September last year, the company had total broadband subscribers of 1.15 million, a 12% increase from 1.03 million a year earlier.

While the Broadband services of Globe is improving, we hope that the 24 months (lock-up) contract is next to be addressed. As a subscriber myself to Globe broadband for 7 years, we encounter more speed/price adjustments for the last few years. The lock-up period inhibits our rights to upgrade our plan and thus making the impression of Globe asking for a higher price while a cheaper option is already present.

Just to let you know, if you plan to change/disconnect your broadband plan ahead of the 24 months lock-up period…you will need to pay up 2 months MSF (Monthly service fee) and 2,500 pesos disconnection fee. To summarize, we are currently in a position where Philippines is adapting to new technology rapidly and we see it implemented less than 24 months.
