Preliminary results from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker show that Huawei is closing in on Apple with 11.3% market share against the California-based firm’s 12.0% share. Samsung is currently leading the smartphone market race with a massive market share of 23.3% and a second quarter shipment volume of 79.8 million units.
Huawei’s current success can be attributed to the success of the P10, P10 Plus, Mate 9 smartphones as well as solid offerings in the mid- and entry-level market such as the GR5 2017 and GR3 2017, respectively. Data suggests that Huawei has shipped 38.5 million smartphones by the end of the second quarter of 2017.
China-based firms OPPO and Xiaomi ranks 4th and 5th, respectively, in the race of most shipments of smartphones worldwide with the former shipping out 27.8 million units leading to a market share of 8.1% while the latter was able to ship 21.2 million units for a 6.2% market share worldwide.
