Huawei Film Awards partner with esteemed Filipino film directors

Huawei Film Awards has partnered with esteemed Filipino film directors to empower their audience to take on film making. Distinguished names in the industry such as Pepe Diokno, Sid Maderazo, Reese Lansangan, and Lyka Gonzales have been tapped to show how film can be made with a Huawei smartphone.

The Huawei Film Awards (HFA) is an Asia Pacific festival dedicated to celebrating work shot using any Huawei smartphone with the goal of uncovering and supporting the talents of tomorrow.

    Director Pepe Diokno.

With the help of the Huawei Mate 30 series, directors Pepe Diokno, Sid Maderazo, Lyka Gonzalez and singer-songwriter Reese Lansangan produced creative visions into works of art. The Huawei Mate 30 Pro’s 40MP Cine Camera allowed them to choose from a variety of shooting modes to make their respective films.

    TV Commercial Director Sid Maderazo.

TV Commercial Director Sid Maderazo shared his perspective on evolution of film making saying, “The high end cameras obviously have a lot of advantages with big lenses, but I think we’re going on the right direction. Witnessing and using the phone for me opens a lot of possibilities and seeing the films by Lyka and Pepe, and to think that everything was shot using a gadget that can fit inside your pocket is just mind-blowing!

Filmmaker and humanitarian Lyka Gonzalez mainly used the Pro mode on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro “…that allowed us control on what shutter speed to use, aperture to use, and even the framerate. So, that customization abilities gave us a lot of freedom and control in shooting the film that we want.

Save Philippine Seas Executive Director Anna Oposa.

Huawei has also partnered with Save Philippine Seas, a marine conservation organization in the Philippines. Anna Oposa, Save Philippine Seas’ Executive Director, expressed how their partnership with Huawei has given their organization a chance to be recognized more and support their various projects.

Those who are interested in joining or passionate in short films and telling meaningful stories can enter the Asia Pacific Regional Film Awards. Entries will be accepted until February 25, 2020. The most creative and lucky person to win the HFA will get a USD 20,000 reward. You can check out the mechanics of the HFA via this link.

Currently, Pepe Diokno, Carlo Manatad, Martika Escobar, and JP Habac have entered the HFA with their own works entitled Things, Tisay, Living Things, So Long So Long To Everyone, respectively.
