Karma: The Dark World out on PS5 March 27
Hello everyone, I’m Yonghe Wang, the Creative Director at Pollard Studios, now to let everyone know that Karma: The Dark World will be available for PlayStation 5 on March 27. The game may also help PS5 Pro improvements. We thought it would be fun to share a breakdown of how the team is using the PS5 Pro features to enhance the game’s visuals and performance, and also share the minute trailer in a series that shows some of the game’s strange settings and characters, which give you an idea of their relationship to the player. Choose Enjoy! A cassette-format, additional world post-World War II psychological thriller based on first-person cinematic fiction takes place. In our game, a company called Leviathan installed a program that oppresses the populace and values productivity and obedience above all else. They also made inexplicable technology available that allowed them to subdue Eastern Germany.
They do this by using a variety of methods, including mass surveillance and mind-altering materials, as well as their secret business of Nightcrawlers, specific ROAM Agents who have the power to question people at crime scenes and for Mind Dives, special technology that allows them to live and interact with the activities in their memories as they search for the truth, dealing with the horrors of people’s pasts and twisted interpretations of emotions, grief, and stress from their harshest experiences. You play Daniel McGovern, a ROAM representative tasked with investigating a robbery at one of the Leviathan technological institutes, and a task that leads to far greater research into love, humanity, empathy, and the complexities of morality.
I think that creation is a profound dialogue with the human soul, transcending movies or books to include real-world experiences and emotions. As stated in the title of this work, we emphasize incorporating philosophical reflection into game design. The relationship between cause and effect is interlinked, with each moment, character connection, event, and more spirally constructing the entire world. Through Karma, we aim to break the boundaries of traditional storytelling, crafting an experience that entertains while provoking thought. It is a mirror to reality, not just a virtual journey, and it urges players to seek their own solutions within the game.
Our team uses stark contrasts in the lighting and bold color combinations to entice players to play an experience that combines realism and surrealism, inspired by the vibes of games from Remedy ( Alan Wake, Control ) and the abstract style of visual storytelling found in the works of the late, great David Lynch ( Twin Peaks, Fire Walk With Me, Eraserhead ), whose artistry profoundly influenced our game development, inspiring us to pay tribute to and learn from his works. Something hauntingly beautiful that lingers even after closing one’s eyes is at the heart of our creation, and an effort to blur the boundaries between reality and illusion. Within the game, we pay homage to Mr. David Lynch, and we hope players will cherish this journey. We had the opportunity to begin using the PS5 Pro kit during development to further enhance the world’s visuals and performance. We’d like to take a moment to share with you the features that PS5 Pro users can anticipate as well as some exclusive environmental footage that was directly filmed on a PlayStation 5 Pro. Our game makes full use of PlayStation’s Spectral Super Resolution ( PSSR ) technology, which provides: Superior image quality with advanced reconstruction techniques; improved edge definition and texture clarity while maintaining visual fidelity; improved detail preservation in motion; improved stability and consistent frame rates; improved stability of playback; improved stability of our game’s performance; improved stability of our implementation utilizing PS5 Pro’s increased memory bandwidth; improved asset streaming and improved stability of play; We can assure you that this story will stick with you for a long time, whether you play on the PlayStation 5 or the PlayStation 5 Pro. On March 27, Karma: The Dark World launches on PlayStation 5 for the first time. And we’re excited to let you play a ROAM agent, but keep in mind that the mind is a dangerous place.
