The long wait is over. Apple’s desktop operating system, macOS High Sierra, is now available for everyone to download. Found in the Mac App Store, all Macs from 2010 and later are compatible with the upgrade, even some devices from 2009 too.

If you’ve haven’t watched Apple’s Keynote about the macOS High Sierra, please don’t expect any visual changes or redesigns as the changes are only found in the foundation of the operating system. MacOS High Sierra includes the new modernized file system dubbed as Apple File System (APFS) and support for a more efficient photo (HEIF) and video (HEVC) standards. These files are designed to efficiently handle 4K video without eating up too much storage on your Mac.

If you’re looking for some visual changes. The Photos app now has some added features and more powerful set of editing tools. The Safari browser also has been upgraded by stopping all videos that are automatically playing and they are also making it harder for advertisers to track Mac users around the web with a feature called Intelligent Tracking Prevention. Notable changes also include Siri improvement and a more capable Notes app.

If you’re using your Mac as a daily driver it’s safe to wait a little bit more for bugs. Also, don’t forget to backup your device just in case.
