In 2025, MLB The Show is celebrating its gigantic 20th anniversary, a step that honors two decades of sports history, technology, and incredible memories for sports fans around the world. To indicate this particular occasion for San Diego Studio and PlayStation Studios, MLB The Show 25 happily features no one, nor two, but three cover runners for the first time ever — Paul Skenes, Elly De La Cruz, and Gunnar Henderson. As we celebrate 20 amazing years of the company, these rising stars add a rich history of famous support athletes that represent the future of sports.
Paul Skenes ‘ career began in high school and continued into college, where he established himself as one of the most gifted young pitchers in baseball by winning a national championship before being chosen as the No. 1 overall pick. 1 general pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2023 MLB Draft. Skenes made his MLB album the following year, becoming the first person to start the All-Star Game only one year after being selected. He was named to the All-MLB First Team and received National League Rookie of the Year honors for his outstanding 2024 time. His history and skill set go hand in hand with Road to the Show, where you can chart your personal path to greatness.
Elly De La Cruz’s rapid transition from the juveniles to the disciplines completely captures the excitement of preparing for a large group album and achieving stardom. Elly has continuously proven to be one of the most thrilling players on the field since making his Major League debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2023. He became one of the youngest players to reach for the entire routine in MLB history, and he is renowned for his blistering speed on the bases and cannon-like arm, more cementing his reputation as one of the team’s most promising talents. The 2024 All-Star exhibits impressive five-tool abilities and a dynamic switch-hitting style, which is exactly what MLB The Show fans long for when developing or acquiring their starting shortstop in franchise mode.
Rounding out this triple play of talent is the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year, Gunnar Henderson. Selected 42nd overall in the 2019 MLB Draft, Gunnar quickly ascended through the Orioles ‘ farm system, making his MLB debut late in the 2022 season. Heading into 2023, he was named the# 1 prospect on MLB’s Top 100 list. Gunnar helped the Orioles make its first postseason appearance in seven years during his first full year in the majors. His outstanding performance earned him the title of AL Rookie of the Year and the Silver Slugger Award. Gunnar’s star grew even more in 2024 when he was chosen to play in the MLB All-Star Game and take part in the Home Run Derby. Fans of MLB The Show who strive to dominate head-to-head competition in their quest for greatness on the diamond will be deeply moved by his MLB journey.
