The guns are out. Battlefield 5 has been announced during the wee hours of the morning in the Philippines. Waiting for it was worth it though. The new Battlefield, dubbed as Battlefield 1, will take place in the dirty trenches of Europe in World War I. Check out the full trailer of Battlefield 1 below:
The trailer shows us a great number of things about the game. It still retains its massiveness in terms of scale and player participation with its 64-player count. Obviously, there will be tanks and biplanes. Also, for the first time, we might be able to see players charging into the lines as horse cavalry. Naval support or battles are set to appear, though the as a game mode or as a support in battles are yet to be confirmed. Gas, flamethrowers, and artillery barrages are also expected to make their appearance.
One thing to note of in the Battlefield 1 trailer is its amazing graphics. We all know that DICE, the developers of the Battlefield franchise, has always been so keen on making their games look good. Battlefield 1 uses the tried and tested Frostbite engine for this. We just hope and pray that the game will mark the return of dynamic destruction and not the script-based “levolution”.
The appearance of the zeppelin at the end can be seen as a tease to the early 1900’s version of Titan / Carrier Assault game mode.
As opposed to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Battlefield 1 will be released in favor of the XboxOne, with owners of the console having a chance to be early players through EA Access. EA Access is a program of EA that allows players of the consoles and the PC to play top games on a monthly subscription-based model.
As I am currently in Japan, the price of the Deluxe Edition of Battlefield 1 in Origin is in Japanese Yen. Priced at JPY 10,584 or about PHP 4,700, it does seem a bit high. Do take note that the price has a large 8% tax on top of it. The Standard Edition, however, is priced at JPY 8424 or PHP 3,705.
Battlefield 5 will come out on October 21, 2016, for the Xbox One, PS4, and the PC.
