New PLDT Fibr plan 5mbps 1699 is not worth it, here's why – Hungry Geeks

PLDT is currently on full throttle to expand their Fiber lines nationwide. They recently introduced a 5Mbps line for Php1699, making it the most affordable Fiber line in PLDT’s lineup.

Previously it was the Plan 1899 which was the most affordable at speeds of 20Mbps, which translate to 200 pesos difference or Php4,800 savings in the whole plan.

But as you can see, PLDT separated the fee for the Modem and Installation for Php3,300 or amortized Php119 for 36 months. So getting the plan translates to Php1,818 for the next 36 months which is just Php81 shy from the Plan 1899.

So in total of availing the Plan 1699 at 5Mbps you will only save Php2,916 for the next 36 months as compared to availing the Plan 1899 20Mbps. This is very ironic of why PLDT would introduce a plan that has a very narrow difference in price but significant in speed.

Plus the amortization is up to 36 months, meaning the Plan 1699 is locked up for 36 months as compared to the regular 24 months? This point is not clarified in the website at all.

Not to mention that Globe and Converge offer 20Mbps for Php1,599, just take note that Globe has a data allocation of (150Mbps) which the speed will throttle down to 6Mbps when you reach it.

Lastly, in 2 years time the standard speed of Fibr will surely spike up and will leave the 5Mbps mark to dust. While you’re enjoying Fibr at this time, in 1-2 years the plans will speed up and you will need to pay 3 months MSF + 2,500 termination fee to update your contract plan.

We’re happy that Fiber is now reaching more areas in the Philippines, but hopefully, the big telco companies will show up more efforts to reach into our houses. Right now in Marikina, Converge Fiber is now present in our neighborhood while PLDT Fiber is around 5 streets away and Globe Fiber nowhere nearby.
