After widespread attention, Razer’s show in CES 2017 in Las Vegas, USA, ended with a sad note. Not just one, but two of its prototype laptops were stolen yesterday, the 9th of January. The said laptops were dubbed as Project Valerie, both sporting a powerful Nvidia GTX1080 graphics card, further complemented with state-of-the-art tech. However, what made it a winner (and the source of boos) over internet denizens is that it is the first laptop to showcase three working 4K LCD monitors in landscape.
Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan has confirmed the incident on his Facebook page. He goes on to say, “We treat theft/larceny, and if relevant to this case, industrial espionage, very seriously – it is cheating, and cheating doesn’t sit well with us.” A bounty has been placed on the two lost devices amounting to $25,000 or about PhP 1,240,000. Publicity Stunt?
While a spokesperson for CES 2017 has already confirmed this incident, others in the internet weren’t keen on believing this, however. Some thought of this as a marketing stunt designed to further the popularity of the gaming brand. Given the security and the number of people in CES 2017, if you don’t know, one of the biggest annual international tech events in the world, it’s not strange for some to doubt. Given its size and quantity (TWO!), it doesn’t sound weird to wear a tinfoil hat.
