Snapchat is pointless, but that's why it's good. – Hungry Geeks

I used to be one of those people who usually say “what’s the point of Snapchat? Your videos will be deleted anyway”. But eventually, being the geek and social media buff that I am, I tried and soon learned to love it.

I know that I’m not alone on this one, but there are a couple of things that I don’t really like with Snapchat. Like the weird UI that is packed with a learning curve that looks like a big and vast mountain range, the way that there are no engagements that you can measure (only views) like a favorite or share button, and again, the way you lose everything after 24 hours.

But that’s why we love it and always stick to it…

No contest, just fun.

Yes, we know that the user interface is crappy but if you look at it in a different angle, it gives you an experimentation feeling. Like when you realize that you can see who viewed your snaps when tapping the eye icon next to the video, eye opening. You won’t get that feeling in Facebook or Twitter where it shows you what you can or cannot do, right in front of your grill.

The lack of feedback and engagement gives you freedom. You’re free to post without worrying about the number of “likes” of “favorites” that you’ll get. If you look at it, there are no popularity contests in Snapchat because you won’t know the number of views your friends had in their snaps. The closest kind of competition in Snapchat is the “score” which I don’t really understand and honestly don’t care.

Also, losing everything and having a clean slate after 24 hours is annoying until you realize that it very much embraces the quote “nothing lasts forever” – it’s okay to share moments for those who are open to it. You won’t need to carefully curate your story unlike your feed in Instagram or delete your Facebook posts because it didn’t garner any share, likes, or comments. Plus, you can always get to start again the next day after.

We know Snapchat is really weird, but that’s what’s good about it. It is not like any other.
