Hey Civilisation fans! Sid Meier’s Culture VII will be available for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, enabling you to create the largest empire the world has ever known on February 11, 2025. With a Graphic created specifically for your controller and features made for PlayStation 4, I’m pleased to present you with the first glance at Civilization VII on the PS5.
As you work to build an empire that will endure the test of time, you can be an illustrious leader in this innovative new addition to the critically acclaimed turn-based plan series. As you build cities to increase your territory, increase your civilization with scientific breakthroughs, and conquer or cooperate with rival civilizations, you’ll progress through three Ages: different chapters of mortal history with their own civs and gameplay mechanics. In a first for the series, you’ll pick your head and society differently, letting you mix-and-match their unique abilities to design new techniques.
Another company milestone is reached here: Culture VII is available on PlayStation devices on the same day as its PC release, with all the same content available right away, and it is cross-play compatible with other platforms in multiplayer. We intend to distribute fresh material instantly across PC and console platforms with Civilization VII, and this unified launch date is one more step in that direction.
Let’s examine Civilization VII’s gameplay on the PS5 and some of the new capabilities we’ve created specifically for PlayStation people.
When we create a new Society game’s visual design, we make the game world feel like a usable museum figurine or a tabletop strategy game come to life. We want you to feel as though your kingdom is expanding with every move you make, and that includes a lot of it. The visual depiction of your territory also plays a significant role.
For Civilization VII, a guiding principle for our craft group was the idea of ‘ accessible realism ‘—pushing the physical devotion even further to create every tile, building, and unit feel that much more real. You’ll see the design of the bricks seamlessly connecting to create convincing vistas with more detail than ever as you continue to increase your borders and build new buildings and ancient wonders.
In order to ensure that the graphics motor runs flawlessly on both PS5 and PS4, we even took the extra step of creating custom graphics renderers for each program internally. Whether you’re admiring your kingdom from the site’s aerial watch or zoomed in for a closer look at a certain product or building, your empire will grow and evolve beautifully throughout the Ages.
We’ve completely overhauled the consoles ‘ Civilization VII UI, including a radial menu that makes it easier to navigate between the most frequently used HUD systems. This adjustment has greatly improved the user experience’s efficiency. We want to put all of our attention where it matters most, and the radial menu puts those choices at the forefront.
Our developers had a lot of fun coming up with creative and imaginative ways to use the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback, so you can truly experience important events in your empire’s history. Combat takes on a whole new dimension as the controller rumbles to indicate damage done and units destroyed in addition to simple, click-like vibrations that emphasize things like the completion of a new civic or the start of your next turn.
When you declare war, you’ll feel a pulsing pattern akin to a war horn’s call, when you found a new city, hammer-like thuds mimic the classic building sound effect. More effects are available for you to explore independently, and we hope they add that little bit of immersion to each turn. If you’d prefer to play without the haptic feedback, they’re easily disabled via the game settings!
The online multiplayer in Civilization VII is the ideal setting to test your strategic acumen against human foes. Multiplayer matches can be epic campaigns that span all three eras, such as the Antiquity Age, the Exploration Age, and the Modern Age, or they can be shorter, spanning specific Ages, skipping straight to the endgame, for instance, with a Modern Age match.
In Civilization VII, there are up to five players in the Antiquity and Exploration Ages, and eight players in the Modern Age. More players means even more opportunities to form alliances, instigate conflict, or even backstab your friends ( hopefully they’ll forgive any in-game betrayals )! Best of all, cross-play between PC and consoles is available at launch, allowing you to play with friends wherever you are.
On February 11, 2025, we can’t wait for you to take a different turn with Civilization VII! Beginning February 6, 2025, you can start playing the game five days early with the purchase of the Deluxe or Founders Editions!
