“Why can’t we be like the PC players with their 4K Monitors and sublime resolutions?” Sony has finally heard the cries of these children and has made the PS4 Pro specifically for them. Contrary to reports before that it will be a newer console, the PS4 Pro sports the same architecture, just faster and more odd-looking (imagine a black edgy Big Mac). The PS4 Pro’s release date has yet to be revealed but you can rest knowing that it will be priced at PhP 22,900. Again, Sony wants to stress the word, “compliment”, as it neither will replace nor outshine the current PS4.
Definitely the major selling point for this upcoming upgrade is that it can play 4K PS4 games. With a boosted CPU and GPU, the PS4 Pro is expected to deliver clear images in tandem with 4K TVs. Unsurprisingly, we can also expect an increase in frame rates. The system will also come with a 1TB hard disk drive, an essential number as a measly 500GB one can easily be filled even if you’re using disc media.
So, what’s in it for old users? Again, Sony promises not pull the rug under us loyal buyers of the first PS4. The PS4 Pro is the same system with just more bling. Think of it as an upgraded PS4 and that’s it. No game exclusives like what happened with Nintendo’s handheld. If you don’t have a 4K TV, the more reason to skip this one and opt for the PS4 Slim instead.
If you have a 4K TV and still want to buy the pro, expect 1st and 3rd-party developers to patch up their previous games for compatibility. Sony also promises that consequent titles coming to the PS4 will come with an option to support 4K.
