The iPhone 7 is here and it is pretty much what we expected – Hungry Geeks

It’s that time of the year again for a new iPhone. It’s finally here after all these months of rumors and speculations. The all-new iPhone 7 sports a new design that’s very similar to last year’s iPhone 6S going with a rounded aluminum body but with removed some antenna bands. But there are also a lot of new changes happening: it’s water resistant, there’s a new dual camera system, stereo speakers, two black colors that replaces the space gray color option and our goodbye to headphone jacks.

New finish and colors

The new iPhone may look similar at first glance but upon holding it, you’ll be greeted with the new glossy and mirrored design. The new color is dubbed as Jet Black which features a darker color than the Space Black that was last found on the iPhone 5. Apple is also going to release a standard black model making the iPhone available in 5 color options.

All new home button

It’s time for the home button to be redesigned. Just like the Force Touch trackpad in the new MacBook laptops, the iPhone 7’s home button is now force sensitive giving it more controls. It also gives a haptic feedback upon pressing just like the MacBook.

Dual Camera System

The camera in the standard iPhone 7 will now have an optical image stabilization and a brighter f/1.8 aperture lens that allows 50 percent more light than the previous iPhone 6S. Apple also stated that the new 12-megapixel sensor is now 60 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient. Just like the rumors, the new camera now sports a quad-LED flash that produces 50 percent more light.

Now all of that are nice, but the main highlight here is the larger iPhone 7 Plus as it sports a dual camera system. The new system allows for true 2x optical zoom without any software to do it. The first lens is the standard lens found in all of the iPhone while the second lens is a 60mm telephoto lens. The camera app will also be redesigned to allow these features to be used and a new option called “Portrait” can now be accessed to use the telephoto lens so you can create those pictures with bokeh effects.

Goodbye headphone jack, hello stereo speakers

This doesn’t really surprise us. We were just waiting for Apple to officially confirm it: The iPhone 7 does not have a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Replacing the headphone jack is a second speaker giving the smartphone stereo sounds. Apple isn’t going to leave the headphone jack users behind so there’s an adapter that comes with the iPhone for your 3.5mm headphones.

AirPods

With Apple now focusing on wireless devices, they also launched a new set of wireless headphones called AirPods. With no wires in sight, Apple has created a new wireless chip that handles both audio and the wireless connection to the phone or Apple Watch. It features a sensor that can detect if it is inserted in your ear so it can play automatically and motion accelerometers to activate Siri. It boasts five hours of battery life and it comes in a battery case that provides 24 hours of playing time.

Performance

Last but not the least, the iPhone 7 sports an all new A10 Fusion processor that’s reportedly 40 percent faster than the A9 chip found in the iPhone 6S. With this, the new graphics processing chip is now 50 percent than the previous one. As for battery life, the new iPhones will now last two hours longer than the iPhone 6S. Nothing much to say as Apple did not disclose the exact capacity of their battery.

Availability and Price

Apple usually mimics the price of the previous iPhone when it was first launched, and this one’s no different. The only thing different here is the storage variants — dropping the 16GB model and doubling all of the base model making the largest capacity to be at 256GB. The new iPhones will start at $649.

Apple stated that the new iPhones will be available for purchase on September 16. And just like last year, let’s expect the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus to arrive here in The Philippines late October.
