The Super 8, An Asian Invitational Tournament, Announces FIBA Recognition | Hungry Geeks | Latest news
Hong Kong (August 28, 2017) – The Super 8 announced today the pre-season invitational tournament has received official recognition of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and FIBA Asia. The Super 8 will take place September 20-24 at Studio City Macau and aims to be the biggest basketball party of the year.
The Super 8 features club teams from China, Japan, Korea, Philippines and Chinese Taipei, converging on Macau to do battle for their right to claim the for the inaugural The Super 8 championship.
“We are honored to be aligned with FIBA and FIBA Asia for The Super 8’s inaugural tournament,” says The Super 8 CEO Matt Beyer. “We are looking forward to developing a positive relationship with FIBA and FIBA Asia that goes long beyond our first event.”
Teams will be divided into two groups of four, each playing three round-robin games. The best two teams from each group will advance to the top four, which will play the following day in a winner-takes-all semi-finals and finals. The three-day long group phase will see teams from separate leagues face off for the first time.
The Super 8’s live streaming broadcast will be available on primetime TV and digital platforms in all The Super 8 markets and across the globe, expanding the range of viewing possibilities beyond the participating markets.
