East Asia’s top club teams land in Macau for inaugural event
Macau, September 20, 2017 – The Super 8 launched today at Studio City in Macau. The five-day tournament features eight of East Asia’s top club teams playing together 16 games in total at the pristine arena: Studio City Event Center.
Media gathered today at Studio City amongst representatives from Melco Resorts Entertainment Limited, Macao Sports Bureau, and Macao Basketball Association to learn about the event and plans for future development of The Super 8.
“We are delighted to be creating history this week at Studio City by bringing together a collection of East Asia’s top club teams to play together in an unprecedented tournament of this scale and quality,” said The Super 8 CEO Mr. Matt Beyer.
As Macau’s economy continues to diversify, the importance of sporting events will grow in kind, and Studio City is well positioned to host international sports events given the quality of Studio City Event Center and its adjoining hotel facilities.
Basketball is a community-building sport that Macau youths and adults rally around, and the government is well aware that bringing top basketball events to Macau is a great service to local fans.
“Macau China Basketball Association welcomes “The Super 8” in Macau. We are pleased that the Macau citizens can enjoy such high-level basketball competitions. We look forward to what lies ahead in future in terms of bigger and better basketball events, to promote the basketball sports, as well as events that engage Macau people on a more grassroots level,” said Mr. Wu Chong Fai President, Macau China Basketball Association.
