Transcend ESD400 1TB USB 3.0 Review – Hungry Geeks

When we usually talk about mobile storages moving in the spectrum of 1TB, we picture tiny and slim drives similar to 2.5” HDDs. They are small, but apparently for Transcend, not small enough. The Transcend ESD400 is a USB 3.0 storage device that boasts incredible speeds, hefty 1TB storage capacity, coupled with a small footprint.

Looks

The Transcend ESD400 Compared to an Xbox 360 Controller

It’s small, light-weight, and has a cute little pouch. It sports a black and smooth exterior that curves round the edges, boasting minimal appeal. So far so good.

Crystal DiskMark

CrystalDiskMark is a disk benchmark software.It measure sequential reads/writes speed,measure random 512KB, 4KB, 4KB (Queue Depth=32) reads/writes speed,select test data (Random, 0Fill, 1Fill),provide theme support and Multi-Language support.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark performance measurement tool is compatible with Microsoft Windows. Measure your storage systems performance with various transfer sizes and test lengths for reads and writes.

281MB/s for Write and 305MB/s for Read.

USB Flash Benchmark

As the name implies, it’s a benchmark tool for our handy dandy thumb drives. The test is pretty light but is similar with Crystal DiskMark, just presented on a graph.

Transcend SSD Scope

Part of the package is Transcend’s SSD Scope. This tool offers a variety of functions such as checking the status of the device and practical ones like erase and system cloning (for OS transfers).

The test returned numbers that are within the range of the previous ones.

Conclusion

The Transcend ESD400 is a device you’ll both want but won’t bother to get. It has incredible speeds with 300-280MB/s for both read and write and is on par, in terms of write speeds, with some SSD drives. Complimenting the raw power is its solid build and small size, enough to fit one’s pocket. Adding in some good tools provided by Transcend, the device is already a sweet deal.

But all of its noteworthy positives comes with a price. A pretty exorbitant price of PHP 22,500. In this case, the high price wall is enough to drown interest for an amazing product. But if you don’t want to be bothered by minutes of waiting for a file transfer and you have the dough in hand, then the Transcend ESD400 is the USB device for you.
