Today, Twitter announced a new process for those who want their accounts to be verified and have that blue check beside their profile.
“We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said Tina Bhatnagar, Twitter’s vice president of User Services. “We hope opening up this application process results in more people finding great, high-quality accounts to follow, and for these creators and influencers to connect with a broader audience.”
In case you’re not familiar, that blue symbol with a white checkmark means that you’re verified. It’s means that the account is authentic and everyone will know that you’re the real deal, not just some parody or fake accounts.
Last time, the feature is given to celebrities, journalists, politicians and the like. But with the new system, Twitter could extend the verification to anyone that are afraid or has high risk of being impersonated.
Currently, only 0.06 percent of the 310 million monthly users are verified. But right now, the application process will start rolling out today, and it should be available globally later in the week. To apply or learn more, check out the Twitter Help Center.
