Valve Announces Dota 2 Reborn – Hungry Geeks

After months of rumors, Valve has finally announced a major technical changes to Dota 2, they call it “Dota 2 Reborn”, the developers of the game are revamping and changing nearly everything in the game, even the engine itself.

While Valve simply called their post on Dota 2 that it will have a “new engine”, it is assumed that it will refer to Source 2, the successor to Valve’s legacy engine in use through numerous updates since 2004’s Half-Life 2.

We should expect that this new engine will bring considerable performance improvements to the game, but the revamp is not stopping there. There are major changes coming to the game’s overall user interface, which is seeing top-to-bottom revisions designed for players to have smooth and simple user experience, it will make it easier to find friends, communicate in-between games, spectate games and tournaments and stat-tracking.

Valve is also looking to address the games increasing popularity with a significant learning curve with the use of greatly upgraded training tools, including guided bot games, instant hero tryouts and more to come.

Valve plans to release more information about Dota 2 Reborn’s upcoming custom game system starting next week, and with plans to launch the Dota 2 Reborn beta client soon after that. The announcement also suggests that the upcoming International Dota 2 tournament will still be played on the current and stable client.
