XiaoMi Launches own Action Camera – Hungry Geeks

XiaoMi would love to kill everything tech and lifestyle in terms of pricing. It is like the better and more internationally accepted CDR-King of the world. This time, they enter the action cam arena where they go head to head with the big GoPro market; as they introduce the XiaoMi, Yi Sports Camera.

Equipped with professional sports Ambrella A7LS image processor and a 16MP Sony Exmor R BSI CMOS image sensor, it promises to that photos and videos are clear, bright and colorful. It also has a 155 degrees super wide-angle lens . The Yi Sports Cam, can record videos at 1080p 60 or 30 FPS; 720p at 120FPS, and 480p at 240FPS. It’s WiFi capabilities can go to a distance of up to 100 meters, it also supports Bluetooth and comes with an App just like your GoPro. The App, you could shoot 10 seconds videos and edit it directly via the app with music and filters to be able to share it with your friends immediately.

XiaoMi’s Yi Sports Cam is made of anti-arctic PC + ABS with metal composite materials  and weighs only 72 grams. It is priced at 399 Yuan or around 2,800Php; you could also opt to buy the action cam with the POV rod kit for an additional 100 Yuan. It also looks like that XiaoMi will be releasing two variant, one white and one in bright yellow with a touch of teal.

The problem is that GoPro already amassed a large following, and more importantly OEM and third party accessories. Could the XiaoMi replicate the success of their mobile phones and redirect it towards the Action Cam market; many have tried to compete with GoPro, and altough some might have succeed, GoPro strongly maintains its leadership in the said area.
